Master's Programme in Plurilingualism and Artificial Intelligence (PIA)

The Master's Programme in Plurilingualism and Artificial Intelligence (PIA) aims to develop advanced knowledge and professional competences, enhance graduates' qualifications and employability, and foster their personal and professional development through a curriculum comprising core, specialized, and complementary courses.

Through its interdisciplinary approach, the programme pursues the following missions:

• Interdisciplinary educational mission – providing advanced knowledge and skills in specialized languages, translation, language technologies, and artificial intelligence.

• Professional training mission – developing competences in computer-assisted language processing, specialized and multimedia translation, and the efficient and ethical use of artificial intelligence tools for multilingual communication and translation.

• Scientific and research mission – fostering research skills and innovative approaches in the fields of language industries, translation technologies, terminology management, and the application of artificial intelligence in multilingual socio-economic contexts.

Specific Objectives of the Master's Programme

The programme enables students to:

• acquire advanced proficiency in professional English and French, with a focus on specialized languages and communication;

• master multilingual language resource and terminology management tools;

• develop competences in computer-assisted processing of linguistic data;

• master computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, machine translation systems, and translation memory software;

• enhance specialized and multimedia translation skills;

• acquire knowledge and practical skills in lexicography and terminography, including the development of specialized dictionaries;

• apply quality assurance standards in translation and terminology management.

Professional Competences and Learning Outcomes

C1. Develop translation strategies – Conduct research to understand translation challenges and design appropriate translation strategies for addressing them effectively.

C2. Apply translation techniques – Use a variety of translation techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of translation, including terminology research, glossary development, and the systematic analysis of specialized texts.

C3. Use translation memory software – Employ computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and translation memory software to ensure efficient, accurate, and consistent translation.

C4. Use localization tools – Apply localization technologies and specialized translation tools to support software, website, multimedia, and digital content localization.

C5. Develop terminology databases – Collect, validate, organize, and manage specialized terminology in order to develop multilingual terminology databases.

C6. Create subtitles – Produce and edit subtitles for audiovisual content, ensuring linguistic accuracy, synchronization with the original dialogue, and compliance with professional standards.

C7. Evaluate translation technologies – Assess translation technologies and AI-powered language tools and provide informed recommendations regarding their use in specific professional contexts.

C8. Apply quality standards in translation – Comply with recognized quality standards for translation services, including the European Standard EN 15038 and ISO 17100, ensuring consistency, reliability, and high-quality language services.

C9. Apply ICT terminology – Use information and communication technology (ICT) terminology accurately and consistently in documentation, communication, and professional practice.

CT1. Collaborate in teams and professional networks – Work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, demonstrating respect for the expertise, responsibilities, and contributions of others while pursuing common objectives.
