GENERAL DESCRIPTION

History: The department was founded in 2001. Initially, it brought together members of the teaching staff from the Department of Romance Languages and the department of English Language and Literature. Currently, its tenured teaching staff consists of  24 members.

Educational mission:

- teaching foreign languages to all the students of the non-philological faculties within the University of Pitesti;

- managing and coordinating the bachelor’s degree program in  Applied Modern Languages within the Faculty of Letters;

- managing and coordinating  the master’s degree program in  Specialized Languages and Computer-Assisted Translation ;

- assessing and certifying linguistic competence for the graduation registration of students from non-philological faculties;

- conducting didactic and research activities within the LOGOS Foreign Language Center.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

The research interests of the teaching staff from the Applied Foreign Languages Departament lie in the following areas:

- linguistics;

- translation studies;

- specialized languages, and

- foreign language didactics.

Research projects:

-La traduction spécialisée: domaine de recherche pour la construction d’un modèle didactique opératoire en contexte pluriculturel (TradSpe) – project financed by the University Agency of  Francophony (AUF) (BECO/P1/2011/46115FT103).

- Ressources de Recherche et de Didactique Universitaire (ResReDU) – project financed by the University Agency of  Francophony (AUF) (BECO/P1/2011/46115FT105).

- Ressources partagées pour l’insertion professionnelle des diplômés en Europe Centrale et Orientale (Reparti-Eco) - project financed by the University Agency of  Francophony (AUF).

OTHER ACTIVITIES

 - coordonation of training activities, linguistic and research services within the LOGOS Foreign Language Center: courses, assessment activities, certified translation and interpretation.

- colaboration for initiation and development of activities under the aegis of the University Agency of Francophony (AUF) in the University of  Pitesti.
